Stratford, CT – In 1998 Stephanie Blackwell opened Aurora Products, Inc. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She never anticipated the explosive growth that would come from her All Natural and Organic food products. “We always knew Organics were a growing segment of the market. However, we never imagined that it would grow at the rate it has. Consumers are using Organic products as a way to improve their health and reduce their exposure to pesticides, hormones and artificial ingredients in the foods they eat,” said Stephanie Blackwell, founder of Aurora Products Inc.
Today, Stephanie has built Aurora Products, Inc. into a leading natural and Organic packager and distributor of All Natural and Organic dried fruits, nuts, trail mixes and granolas. Her company now has over 100 employees and sells over 60 Organic products that can be found in supermarket chains and independent stores located primarily in the Eastern and Mid-Atlantic States.
“We find that consumers are not just looking for healthy foods, they are looking for functional foods that can help their bodies combat cancer, help their immune system, fight off colds and help lower their cholesterol,” added Blackwell.
Aurora Products, Inc. packages and distributes only the highest quality and freshest All Natural and Organic dried fruits, nuts, trail mixes and granolas. Many of Aurora Products, Inc. items are Certified Organic, Kosher and provide consumers with a “Heart Healthy” alternative to snacking. Rigorous quality control and routine audits are used to insure top quality Organic food.
Aurora’s Organic best sellers include Almonds, Cashews, Walnuts, Turkish Figs, Apricots, Cranberries, Trail Mix and Sunflower Seeds. Most of these best sellers can be purchased raw, salted or unsalted and provide consumers with the following health benefits:
Almonds – Probably the most nutritious of all nuts. Almonds are loaded with protein, fiber, magnesium, vitamin E and other antioxidants and phytochemicals. A few almonds a day can help ward off cardiovascular disease.
Cashews – A rich source of B vitamins, copper and magnesium which aid the body’s nerves, bones and muscles tissues. Cashews also contain monounsaturated fats that have been shown to keep cholesterol levels down.
Walnuts – Rich in alpha-linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid) which helps reduce cholesterol levels and boost health of the heart. Their B vitamins can enhance energy and improve brain function.
Turkish Figs and Apricots - Turkish figs and apricots are fat-free, sodium-free and like other plant foods cholesterol-free. Great for the digestive system and they contain fiber and high mineral content.
Cranberries – Rich in antioxidants and flavonoids, cranberries are credited with helping to prevent E coli bacteria from adhering to the wall of the urinary bladder, thereby combating bladder infections. Rich in vitamin C, cranberries can also ward off cold and flu.
Trail Mixes – Trail mixes are a great way to combine the benefits of both nuts and dried fruits. Rich in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and “good for you” monounsaturated fats.
Sunflower Seeds – Rich in potassium and phosphorus. Sunflower seeds also contain selenium which is thought to “lift the mood”.
According to the Organic Trade Association (OTA), U.S. Organic food sales totaled nearly $17 billion in 2006. OTA represents the Organic agriculture industry in North America. Its membership includes growers, shippers, processors, certifiers, farmers' associations, distributors, importers, exporters, consultants and retailers, totaling more than 1650 members. Global sustainability is encouraged through OTA by promoting and protecting the growth of diverse Organic trade.
“We are also launching a new line of new 50% Post Consumer Recycled PET consumer packaging as another way of showing our retailers and consumers that not only do we care about their health, but also about our environment that we all live in,” explained Stephanie Blackwell.
The Aurora Natural branded snack line can be found at retailers including Stop & Shop, Giant, Shop Rite, Acme, Shaw’s, Price Chopper, Big Y, Whole Foods, A&P and quality Independent Stores. The vast array of their product lines can be found in the Produce or All Natural sections within the stores.
